Palmeiras and Chile playmaker Jorge Valdivia will appeal against the 10-game suspension he received in the wake of the indiscipline scandal that enveloped the national team in November, making him the only member of the 'Baptism Five' to dispute the punishment.
'El Mago', Arturo Vidal, Jean Beausejour, Gonzalo Jara and Carlos Carmona were all hit with the stiff penalty after a disciplinary hearing held by the ANFP, Chilean football's governing body.
This followed the quintet's expulsion from the team hotel days before the World Cup qualifying clash against Uruguay, when coach Claudio Borghi ordered them out due to their arriving late and "in an inadequate state" from a party to celebrate the baptism of Valdivia's child.
Including the two qualifiers missed, the five will be out of eight more Roja games. Triunfo reported on Wednesday, however, that Valdivia's lawyer Wilfredo Sequeira presented the ANFP with an official appeal against the ban.
His challenge will be heard by the body's disciplinary committee on an as yet undetermined date, and neither Valdivia nor his attorney gave a statement.
